OK, so I want a new computing device and it isn't easy.

The Transformer T100 is pretty sweet internally, runs Windows 8 and costs only about $700, but it's made of plastic and the keyboard doesn't contain and extra batter. The Transformer Prime is made of metal and does have extra battery but it runs Android and uses an ARM chip. I'd happily pay $900 for a combination of both, but ...

The Surface range is made of metal and have HD screens and a keyboard/kickstand combo I really like but the Pro is about $1500 and much more powerful than I need. The Surface 2 is 'ok' internally and I could probably live with RT on a mobile device but why not build one with a Bay Trail chip and give me the best of both worlds? OK, if Bay Trail is more than the ARM chips they are using we are talking over $1000 but why not?

I get there are marketing and segmentation reasons for things like this but it still gets on my nerves, anybody else?

Didn't anybody tell you I was a hacker?

The Asus TX300 has a battery + HDD in the keyboard dock, but is not cheap.
Unfortunately you can't have the best of both worlds, cheap + all the features and quality build.
