Just seen this, not sure how long it will last: AU$400 discount on Microsoft Surface Pro 128GB.

Note this is the original Surface, not the Surface 2.

Vaguely tempted to get it if I go over to Aussie - esp as the A$599 price is GST inclusive (which means only $540 if you claim the GST back at the airport) - as I'm contemplating an upgrade for my slightly elderly droid tablet.

Goods specs for the price. Trouble is, I'm still scarred from trying to use Windows 8.0 on an (admittedly non-touch screen) laptop. Yeeech, it was awful! So probably another droid or an iPad in the offing instead.

windows 8 as a laptop is little different from 7, apart from much better touch screen support.

problem is a windows 8 tablet for leisure (non work purposes) - there is no tablet specific content! ZILCH

if you need a pc want a tablet you should get a 13" laptop

i tried the 10" tablet it is a tad on the small side and costs more than a laptop!

Dock it at your desk and use a full mouse/keyboard/multiple external monitors

seems like a reasonable price for a Core i5 PC with no keyboard and a digitiser touch screen

Benefit of Asus T100 - Keyboard, MS Office 2013 Student is part of the package, battery life

Benefit of Surface Pro 1 - Powerful (CPU & RAM), Storage (128GB SSD), Digitizer with Pen for handwriting. You might be able to score MS Office 2013 for free from the education provider if they are eligible or Office 365 University for cheap.

Do whatever you want to do man.

I had an Asus T100. used it for a month. sold it. too small as a laptop. too slow as a laptop. brilliant as a tablet (plays any video clip unlike ipad) but no tablet apps available after a month.
