Hi.  I've got a Dell D620 Latitude laptop.

Lately it's been loosing it's wireless adapter.  Not the connection, basically the machine thinks it doesn't have any network capabiliy at all.

Try disabling the adapter and it locks up (although sometimes you can right click the windows wireless icon and repair, and it will come back).

So it's a hard reset, sign in to safe mode and delete the wireless adapter.  Then when it comes back it reloads the drivers, I set up my wireless connection again and off it goes for another day or so.

I've tried updating the Dell wireless drivers, and have now loaded the intel proset/wireless software and drivers.

Any ideas??    Anyone?

Is is possible to do a quick install of another os on a different partition to test? I know its the lazy answer but it may be quicker to do then continuing to troubleshoot it and at least this way you'll be able to confirm if its h/w of s/w related.

probably not practical.  I could just get it rebuilt (again).

It was fine, it's only started in the last 2 weeks or so.

I have a d610 and it consistently loses the wireless. Although a reconnect usually fixes the problem it is a nuisance, I changed the AP to a Dlink DI 624S as the old ap was way out of date and becoming insecure, the firewall is a P100 and well past its use by date and the AP kept disconnecting.

The disconnection problems have not been solved and all wireless devices are not immune. Admittedly all devices are dell products. I suspect that its actually a dell driver issue but havent lost enough patience with it yet to fix the problem. However it was a good excuse to get a new AP, we are happy with this one, the functionality suits us and it has features which suits my job when I am on the road or away from home. I can run the network remotely or locally, as well as add extra media devices which we plan to do in the future anyway.

not sure if mine is similar....the first time it did it, i tried hooking up to a lan cable, and that wouldn't connect either.  Think xp might be a bit foobar.
