This is well worth a read. It sounds like Microsoft are planning to finally provide what users want and not isolate themselves anymore. Offering Microsoft's services across whatever platform a customer wants to use is fantastic. I'm definitely getting behind this new CEO and can't wait to see how things progress. It's also great that he's backed up his statements today by releasing Office for iPad, and making the iPhone version free.

(I put this in Microsoft Windows as it's the only Microsoft labelled forum, but happy to move to Off-Topic or similar if anyone has a suggestion?)

It was Steve Ballmer who pushed for this and implemented it well before he left. Just look at the Apple App Store (both iOS and Mac) and Google Play Store and you will see how many Microsoft applications are available to these users. Satya is continuing on top of that. Office for iPad was developed when Steve Ballmer was around. No CEO can get an application as major as this pushed out in a months time of being a CEO.

One good thing about Satya though is that he is also technically minded person like Bill Gates. Steve Ballmer was a management guru but he picked up a lot of technical stuff over the years working at Microsoft. Satya is also active on twitter something which Steve never bothered with. Who knows, it might help Microsoft look *cool* amongst users who did not consider it to be cool before?

Oh I'm well aware these things have been in the pipeline for a while. However there's been loads of times projects have been squashed in the past, or opportunities missed allowing competitors to get create a huge gap between themselves and MS. My comments are around the future of MS, not what's lead us to where we are now. Based on that it sounds like the future is bright.

Everything I have so far seen from Nadella leads me to take him very seriously.

If we are to talk about how the cloud needs the device and the device needs the cloud is it significant the he does not mention the pipes that link them together?

I know the relationship is becoming complex with OTT services and the shifting balance between the device driving customers to the telco vs the telco pushing the device. But to avoid what he referred to as 'islands of isolated capability' surely the connection needs to be addressed? At some stage?

He is specifically talking about mobile so I think we can leave fixed line for the moment.

MS is Devices & Services company not a telco. MS partners with the operator channel.

I'm not sure what he would say either but I'll bet my next beer he would have something to say and that it would be very interesting.

I'd bet a few more beers he has a plan.

I'm currently reading a transcript of the Mobile First, Cloud First press briefing and it is very clear this guy has a vision.

Going to be some extremely interesting announcements in the next 12 months.
