Have I been hacked? My laptop is requesting the password for my Microsoft account in what appears to be a "metro" user interface? This is not occurring on my Win8 mobile phone, only on the laptop.

What are you trying to do?

8.1 is tied to your Microsoft login by default, so there are plenty of scenarios where you could be asked for it.

If the date/time or timezone is wrong access to the store will fail the SSL handshake and it may say something along the lines of "connect account"...
