I can't find the email I spent ages sending about Vaio laptop crashing.  Anyone see it - 10 August?

Who did you send the email to?

Didn't join GZ until 11 August, so not a post here...

Oh my, I should have saved it.  In short is it possible that corrupt hardware can interfere with software and cause little glitches, e.g. Office just stop working and then just start again; IE pages changing magnficiation even after being reset.  Had a Vaio not yet 3 yrs old that has had a habit of shutting down 'not responding'.  Tried many things, had it to 3 diff. technicians - Sony - the 2nd time and just keep having problems.  The last 'stuck' it came back from local technician without fn keys or Sony spec keys of pad working properly.  Went back and he got fn keys going, but Assist key still doesn't nor does touchpad have full function.  Feel shafted by the local guys and reluctant to send back to Sony - time without computer etc - have had 2 comments that they don't know why this is happening........  So a fair bit of money has been spent now if you include the cost of getting all the stuff off the Toshiba onto this one.  It's been restored a few times too.  Feel total loss of confidence, but also feel that it's not 'fit for purpose' under CGAct.

Do a reinstall which will reset it back to how it initially was, as software has bugs which maybe causing it. If it is still doing it, go back to the manufacturer.

Thanks.  I thought that's what the technician I sent it to would have done, charged $115 or similar.  Then has subsequently said $200 + to do that.

Before doing a reinstall check that you have an antivirus installed and run a full scan. Also run a full anti-spyware scan.

Yes you could have hardware problems such as this - it could be overheating, or faulty HDD or faulty memory.

In any case run the scans first before proceeding with any reinstall.
