OK so I went ahead and did it anyway - I hope another topic is acceptable to the forum admins.

Removed drive from AMD platform machine, installed into Intel Haswell platform machine WITH uefi BIOS. Waited a while, it booted, got devices ready and boom ! there was the desktop. The only intervention required from me was to replace the standard MS video card driver with the 'proper' one. Job done, works beautifully.

I'd still recommend doing a few more drivers even if your device manager has no missing drivers. I'd at least do Intel Chipset, Disk Controller and USB3.
