Hi there guys,

Was just wondering if anyone could help me out.
The other day I upgraded my PC from XP to Vista. Just one small problem, there is no sound. It says there is no sound device attached. And I dont know how to get the drivers as now i dont know what the device name is.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Microsoft no longer supply drivers for AC97 devices. Check for these with your motherboard manufacturer or PC supplier

You could also do this to double check,

1) Right Click on My Computer
2) Choose Manage
3) And then choose Device Manager in the window
4) In your right pane, choosing Device Manager in the left pane, right click on the computer name and scan for hardware changes

If this does not yield any result showing that new hardware has been found, then probably you have to ask your vendor who supplied the system or just google for any problems with that sound with vista

Chaks

I found during the install process that Vista was unable to locate a shipped driver for my C-Media AC97 integrated audio, however selecting the option to search for one on the internet came up with a working driver that it downloaded, and I have had no problems since.

When you installed Vista, did it auto-detect the audio device and request a driver?

Hey guys,

Thanks for the responses. I tried what you guys said but to no avail.

Vista automatically came up with the trouble shooting window and said:
Compatibility issue between MPU-401 Compatible MIDI Device and Windows Vista

and also asked me if it could download drivers for Realtek AC97 Audio/nForce4 for AMD

however when it goes on the Windows Update it doesnt have any files for me to download.

I googled these two things for drivers but i cant seem to come across anything...

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys
