What a showcase of modern technology. This is the kind of things Star Trek predicted: Microsoft HoloLens.

If it is half as good as they make it look here they could really be onto something pretty special.

geekiegeek: I'd wear this over Google Glass

I think they're approaching it in the right way in that they don't seem to be pushing it as a day to day wearable like glass, rather something you wear just at home or work. IMO this lets them get away with a bigger, more bulky design, and avoids the "weird" stigma of a wearable like that in public.

I better start saving up. Definitely on the right track IMHO. Wow.

Have been following the concept.

For those of us that do R&D in this area (or in the field of NUIs) I hope there will be a developer preview program of some kind before it goes to GA.  Also, I'd like to see very tight integration with Kinect for windows.

I understand that the VR support may be baked into Windows 10, if that is the case, we also need the Kinect support baked in as well.

The developer preview program and SDK will become available at the BUILD conference in April this year.

We cant talk about pricing etc quite yet sorry. The hologram namespace APIs will appear in Win10 builds released publically in that timeframe too.

Nice concept, will be interesting to see how it will be priced and what people will think of it. And not to mention, when it will actually be available as a consumer product (and not a developer beta).

It does seem like the Microsoft PR-machine maybe got a little carried away on its promotional video, because there is no way its going to be as slick as what is portrayed. Anyone remember the launch of Kinect?

Relevant article: Skeptical of HoloLens? It's time to rewatch how Microsoft sold us on the Kinect

Seeing the short clips of actual use from the launch shows the difference between the thought up world of the promo video and the actual world of the HoloLens.

Mind you, Wired seems stocked and convinced

Looks cute. I wonder how close the reality will be to the hype.
