Ok so I needed a new deskphone, and thought why not go for something thats windows live messenger compatible.

I did a bit of research and the Uniden Win1200 has all of the features im looking for in a phone, So I ordered it. About 2 weeks of waiting on back order and it turns up in all its shiny glory, I unpack it and to my astoundment, it doesnt come with any software, I read the manual (once in a while I do this) it Claims "plug and play" So i plug it in, get a popup to install hardware, everything goes smooth (or so I thought) I get the explorer popup with the old "what do you want windows to do" I select allow this phone to make calls and tick the remember option box, I notice there is two phone icons in the system tray, one is the windows live messenger device manager saying "no devices" the other is the phone, which disapears after 30 sec.

So i hit the PC call button on the phone and it says"phone application not available"

I have tried restarting, changing usb ports, removing the usb port from device manager restarting, replugging, stand on one leg, removing the livecall.exe and device manager from windows firewall and re-adding, nothing changes and Im considering returning the thing as there is little or no support topics on the net regarding this.. Any ideas bar beating it into peices with the 4lb mallet vodafone sent me as a promotional thing

HELP pls kthxbai!

FYI my system is a p4 3.0 with 1.5gb ram, patched to the bejeesus with every ms patch under the sun
I have also tried repairing the windows live messenger install

Have you made sure that you meet the minimum requirements?

Windows XP (not Vista, this might be why you have a problem?)
Live messenger 8.0
IE 6.0

You are connecting it directly to the PC and not via a hub? Also is it a USB2.0 port?

Also, have you tried reseting th handset and base unit?

Just spoke with Uniden, it was released before Vista apparently and is fully XP compatible, and yes, meet or exceed the other specs

there is no software or anything available for it which kinda sucks as it relies on windows live messenger to drive it.

Have tried resetting it, no hub, and yes usb 2.0

So I take it that you are using Vista then?

32bit or 64bit?

And made sure the Windows Messenger is running and logged in?

Really strange this phone didn't have software. They have to have something...

I would say that the software is built into the phone, therefore you do not need any CD's.

In the US Uniden have been crediting customers who bought this phone for vista, as there is no firmware update available.

Maybe you could contact Uniden NZ and see how you get on?

No software needed. Here is a link to the manual if you want to check the troubleshooting (pdf)...

Yeah I have the actual manual, have read it extensively and its about as useful as an ashtray on a motorcycle.

HMM I may try this on another PC and see if it works, if not its going back.

BIG THUMBS DOWN TO UNIDEN
