I attempted to update drivers for my laptop cpu and gpu. During the update my screen resolution changed. I tried to change the resolution back, but the computer only gives me 2 options for resolution.

1024x768 or 800x600

Presumably I should have more options than that?

The GPU update didn't seem to work, as I now get a message saying that "No AMD graphics driver is installed, or the AMD driver is not functioning".

Any ideas??

It didn't work , you can restart and see how it goes, install again, change driver in device manager to vga and lastly check your using the right driver by manufacturer.

I reinstalled the driver, it was successful. After restarting the computer has the same message and I am still prompted to update the driver. Which is annoying as it said it worked.

I don't know if this is related, but I appear to have lost the options of sleep and hibernate on my laptop.

Where did you get the new drivers from?

If you're using Windows, uninstall all driver software you installed, and any that may have been there, and then reboot and let Windows and perform a hardware scan and install drivers.  Then you either need the laptop manufacturers drivers or the latest WHQL drivers.  The laptop maker may have tweaked config away from the reference board and drivers, and the GPU reference drivers won't work.

What laptop model?

What GPU?

You have to be very careful with laptops with Radeon/Intel adapters, HPs in particular. The loss of sleep and brightness control are what happens when your drivers aren't working.

Go to Add/Remove Programs, uninstall any AMD drivers you currently have, reboot.

Go to the HP website, download the drivers for your laptop from there. There will likely be an Intel AND an AMD driver. Install both. They are probably very old.

Reboot - you will be up and running.

If you want a more up to date driver you can try using Leshcat UniFL - www.leshcatlabs.net - they wrap the installers/drivers so they work better.

The stock mobility drivers from AMD WILL. NOT. WORK. CORRECTLY.

A bit of a tangent, but I'd like a dollar for ever time Adobe engineer Chis Cox has told people to 'Update their video driver from the manufacturer's website'.   Anyone remember the update from Windows 8 to 8.1 arbitrarily installed a generic MS driver for the GPU.  That messed my Adobe apps right up!

In this case it seems that going to the AMD site might not be the best approach.

NP. Had similar issues with my Probook - no sleep in Windows 8.1 for 12 months after release before HP finally released a new driver.
