I've posted this over on the official Microsoft Windows 10 TP forum, but haven't received a reply.

When I was setting up W10TP, it wanted me to confirm my email address. It had two options - text me a code and email me a code.
At that stage I didn't have email setup, so I went with text the code. I confirmed my number (it already had it, I just needed to confirm the last 4 digits) and waited. This was on the 5th I am still waiting.
Thankfully they had an option "I can't do any of these now" and I continued on to use the system.

About a week later I was looking through the Settings menu and I came across the option to confirm - only one option this time (text) and so again I went through confirming my number (again, last 4 digits). Again I am still waiting.

Wondering if this is a W10TP error, or a general Microsoft doesn't know how to text my phone error.
Pretty sure it has worked in the past

Have you ported your number between Telco's recently?

I think I've had the MSA text verification work once or twice, but it fails the rest of the time (021 number on Skinny). The "call me" verification *usually* works, but I've had that one fail too.

i had issues with the texts taking a few minutes on spark occasionally.

Installed the Authenticator on my phone and linked that up at account.live.com - much better.

I find that the phone call option is generally instant where the TXT option can sometimes be a problem (like on a ported number to 2degrees, for example)

I use the TFA Authenticator as I am not sure all overseas SMS work all the time with our local providers - moved all my accounts to Authy actually (the one app that made me leave the Windows Phone ecosystem).

Will do when I am home (forgot to check in on this thread last night)
Just to confirm though MSA is? (Microsoft Account email?)

Phone was ported from Vodafone to 2D in April 2011, have received codes in the past without issue since porting

I have had delays in excess of 30 seconds with the microsoft texting, and frequant non arrivals. Pretty hopeless.

They also seem to use random source numbers like google do, rather than being like facebook where they always come from the same shortcode, so check what you have blocked on the phone.

Not used the call option with microsoft. I do on a couple of my google accounts because the SMS is just so wonky with them. May have to investigate changing to a call with microsoft.

How does Authy compare to Google Authenticator (which I've used for some time)? Authenticator can only be used on one device. Would love to find an alternative that can be used on more than a single device at once as I have two phones I switch between.

Okay so Authy does support more than one device (nice) but will await further comment before migrating everything from Authenticator.

I had the same issue, texts from Microsoft used to come through fine on my 021 number on 2 Degrees.  I used it successfully last year to setup an Azure account.

A few weeks ago I went to set up another Azure account for a training course and the text failed to arrive on my 021 number.  I tried twice.  Then I tried an 022 number I have on 2 Degrees and it came through in seconds.

Authy supports more than one device and runs as a Chrome add-on as well.

Go for it.
