Just got a HP stream 8 tablet. Set it up but it will not connect too or see our Asus N56U router unless I turn the router off and on again. It will see other routers from neighbouring houses and it will wee the Wi-Fi in our Sony TV. Anyone own one and have something similar ? Have had a look on Google, just wondering if anyone knew of a simple fix (am far from an expert when it comes to Wi-Fi channels and stuff like that). Thanks.

Forgot to mention I do have the Asus turn its Wi-Fi off automatically overnight, but shouldn't the Stream just connect back up when its available again ?

what channel is the router using?

Check it is 1,6 or 11, not 12.

I read something in a stream 7 forum about it not recognising channel 12 or above

On my 8 I get connection every time but occasionally only with limited connection, usually flicking WiFi off then back on again fixes it for me

Brilliant device for the money though

Been looking through HP forums as well, especially 'stream 7 wifi drops' http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Windows-Tablets/Stream-7-wifi-drops/td-p/4762494/page/11 , - its up to 12 pages so far.

Saw someone said something about only receiving an IPv4 address and not an IPv6 address. Might explain why rebooting the router seemed to help (though only tried that once, people will  insist on using it for Netflix and stuff). Suppose I could try updating drivers, but I apparently need to get myself an OTG cable for that.....

Can I perhaps ask Wade the version number of your wifi driver ?

guess mine is older - 3007.6.0901.2014. Hopefully I can connect if I get a chance to reboot the router and I can update then.

If the router is on auto then it would, as the router will choose something different each time it comes up depending on what else it sees in use.

Tried updating the driver to 3007.10.1031.2014. Didn't seem to be any improvement (or make anything worse).

Tried changing the channel on 2.4GHz (guess it doesn't use/have 5GHz) to 1 from auto and it seems to be much better now, connecting automatically pretty consistently fingers crossed, touch wood. Thanks very much RichMS and Wade and everyone else.
