i am having similar problems. i recently got vista ultimate and i have it networked via lan cable to a siemens wireless router along with my flatmates computers which are both running xp pro and one of which is connected wirelessly. the one problem i have had is with sharing on vista. the permissions tool is a pain and even though i select "everyone" half the time it either tells my flatmates or visitors who bring their computers round that they do not have permission. sometimes they can get into some folders and not others and sometimes there are files missing when they are browsing a particular folder. also when my computer auto-locks itself and my monitor turns off it appears to cause havoc with the network. i can't be reached at all via lan or wireless and sometimes it even appears to affect my flatmates accessing each others computers. anyone got any ideas? i figure it must be something to do with vista as these problems were none-existent before i upgraded. thanx

Just a few checks you might like to look at. Firstly go into the Network and sharing centre and turn on the first 3 of the 6 lights under sharing and discovery (Network discovery, file sharing, public folder sharing). Under the public file sharing select "Turn on sharing so that anyone with network access can open, change and create files" I have been wondering how to share files to others with a xp operating system and it took me a while to figure it out. Its this public folder as far as I can make out is the only way you can share files between other users. I have a wireless router and was able after doing what I said above to put a file onto a wireless laptop running vista. Hope this helps.
