Hi

Whenever I have my external hardrive (X:\) plugged in to my laptop (Running Windows Vista Home Premium) I wont recognize my Operating System. If it is unplugged it just boots up like normal. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

DO you have external power for this drive? Perhaps it's drawing too much power from the USB port?

You mean when you try to boot your laptop with the external drive plugged in, that it tries to boot from the external drive - in which case it grinds to a halt. Change the boot sequence in the BIOS so that it boots off the hard drive first.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

Check your boot order sequence in BIOS, may be its trying to boot USB first and since your USB has nothing, for some reason, it gets stuck there and doesnt go to the that local hard drive. It would be worth checking the boot order.
