Only a few days ago, I had no problems with the full version of maps on this Windows Vista laptop. Have Google changed Maps so it no longer runs under Vista? The earliest version of windows it mentions is now Win 7.

Requirements for 3D and Earth View

The Lite version is sooooo basic.

Moved to the correct sub-forum. Windows Vista isn't Google ChromeOS ;-)

Interesting. Seems more to do with the browser.

My findings
Win 10  IE11 OK, Chrome Lite, FF OK, Spartan Lite.
Vista  IE9 Lite, FF OK.

What browser did you test?

I only have Google chrome installed. It's worked fine until just the other day. I just wonder if Google has made a change at their end, because we haven't changed anything (knowingly) on the laptop.

Have a look at this. When you click the link on that page that takes you to requirements for full mode, it excludes Vista.

Windows 8.1 - IE11, Chrome and Firefox all default to full mode

Perhaps Chrome under Windows 10 isn't recognised as being on a supported OS by Google Maps so is sent to Lite? Spartan may not be recognised as a known browser at all, so is only offered Lite?

IE 11 and Firefox may not get checked for OS, and allowed to run based on browser version alone? Might explain why Firefox on Vista was okay, even though Vista isn't a supported OS.

But it doesn't exclude Vista as FF is OK on my Vista.

Ironic that the GOOGLE Chrome browser doesn't support full mode but IE 11 and FF does on my win 10 machine.

Read that the new version of Maps was pushed out from 15 Apr 2015 which would be why we are starting to see it now.

Sorry, Stu, our posts clashed. Your postulations sound good to me. Maybe Vista is flying under the radar with FF like you say.

But who knows???

There will be some hacked off people, like the OP, though.

I'm sure there are.

Looks like the only workaround for those on Vista at the moment is to install Firefox.

Could be a different story if Google figure it out and make moves to block Firefox on Vista as well.

Just revisited my Vista machine and installed Chrome.

IE 9 - still loads old maps but says new maps is on the way
FF - Lite
Chrome - OK

Seems like a moving target!
