Hey guys,

I used to work from home and had Windows 8 Enterprise on my home computer for work. However I no longerhave access to VLSC to get windows 8.1. What are my options? I was hoping to get the free upgrade to Windows 10 but that only applys to 8.1. I might have a copy of windows 7 laying around so could downgrade so I can then upgrade to 10 from windows 7?

Thanks,

Install windows 10 preview -- and you'll be given a win10 license for free when 10 is released to public.

What about this:
Update, June 21st 9:45AM: Microsoft has updated its blog post today and removed references to "remain activated." The stealthy edit isn't acknowledged, and we've reached out to the company for comment.

Tricky microsoft.

Still, this does not necessarily rule out the preview uprade path.

Wait until the reach out for comment is answered.

I've seen a couple of articles that says you still need a valid 7/8 license to get to W10.

http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=45&topicid=175022. Answered in this thread. Preview users won't be given a free license without a valid Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 license.
OP, if you have enterprise, there is no upgrade path anyway, it won't be offered through Windows Update unlike the Home and Pro versions. Just put on a copy of Windows 7 that you are licensed for and do the update to 10 when it arrives next month. Either that or you will have to fork out for a valid 8.1 license now or a Windows 10 one when it comes available next month.

Different news places saying different things. This one was published yesterday, but so was LH.

I guess the only clear thing that comes out of this is that microsoft is a mess.   They don't know their left hand from their right hand , hugely embarrassing for them.

Even if you could upgrade you Enterprise edition to 8.1 it would still not qualify for the free upgrade so your Windows 7 license is the safest bet.

I just wanted to clarify but for others reading this post but you can get Windows 10 if you have a valid Windows 8 license, but you must upgrade it to 8.1 first (which is free via Windows Update). It is the enterprise version that is the reason that Leo's O/S isnt upgradeable (via windows updates) to Windows 10. Not the fact that it is Windows 8.
Enterprise versions of Windows 7/8 and 8.1 is only available via software assurance & its volume license channels and so the licensing (and its installation media) will be handled through that (ie the VLSC website).

Windows 7
Windows 7 Starter will be upgraded to Windows 10 Home

Windows 7 Home Basic will be upgraded to Windows 10 Home

Windows 7 Home Premium will be upgraded to Windows 10 Home

Windows 7 Professional will be upgraded to Windows 10 Pro

Windows 7 Ultimate will be upgraded to Windows 10 Pro

Windows 8
Windows 8.1 will be upgraded to Windows 10 Home

Windows 8.1 with Bing will be upgraded to Windows 10 Home

Windows 8.1 Pro will be upgraded to Windows 10 Pro

You are implying that people on win 10 preview be given a genuine license?

Is that right?

Cheers

he will probably come back with a reply like

.....

:)

and then read between the lines, that was his response in another thread, so one would assume you can/will.
