Is Windows 10 up to it, yet compatibility wise?

Does search provide the deep functionality without cortana?

If you've upgraded, would you recommend it to everyone else?

You're actually probably right. When I get up the wait list, I will most likely go for it. Buuuut, you do work for Microsoft. Just sayin' ;P

Not the useful backup from a Microsoft employee:).

No one knows your situation.

If you have critical software, that you can't live without, then wait a little.

Otherwise, the vast majority of software should (or will be updated to) run fine under Windows 10.

That is a Windows thing -- compatibility.

Probably the most important thing for it's success.

i was unsure, uneasy, thinking an upgrade might break the system. but i am curious, so i just did it. feels smoother and slicker than 8.1

i think your chances are good. but there is a small risk that your pc might be worse off, but that will just be plain unlucky.

That's basically how it appears - Windows 10 looks _actually_ better. But there does seem to be a small percent with compatibility issues.

It "feels" faster, ie no perceptible lag that i thought existed on Windows 8. Impossible to measure as i don't have 2 side by side, and then flash the opposite and re measure.

When I download the 64-bit tool from this link and open the exe, nothing happens. That is, I get asked if I give permission for it to open, I say yes, then, nada, bupkiss, zero, zilch. No new processes show up in Task Manager either.

EDIT: Whoops, should've RTFM. Need to run as admin. Not a promising start, I guess.

All of my PC's went up perfectly smoothly and no regrets.
I was pleased to not that (even prior to having cleared) the rollback files one laptop which previously was running a little tight on disk storage now has an additional 10GB free ... nice bonus

I totally would. But my one flash drive has another setup on it :P Maybe I should anyway and back it up. Feeling lazy :P

OK, now I'm confused. I selected Run as Administrator, and STILL nothing happened. "Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to your computer?" "Yes" - and nada. What am I still doing wrong?

Just did the update to our home desktop today. Really pleased with it. Looks great, all works properly and everything is working just like I left it in Windows 7. Can't wait till we start the rollout of 10 enterprise at work.
Only 2 minor hiccups were the windows 7 graphics driver for my GT430 was not happy running under windows 10. Uninstalled it completely from Device manager, rebooted, it sorted itself out through Windows update.
I also had to use the manual update tool as I am impatient. Got the useless error message "Something Happened", but did the iso download using the tool and installed from that after writing it to a usb drive. All fine, all activated and all working as well as the Windows 7 install was.
