ok ,ive just done a fresh install to my sons laptop. its installed 2x updates, and since then it just hangs on checking for updates.

its pro ultimate 32bit, activated .

ive used MS fixit, and update fixit engines ,

and still no go.

ive reinstalled and still the same issues,

im wondering if MS have stopped updating from fresh installs for win 7- i really dont want to install 10- its too buggy!

any ideas?

No idea. Try restating a few times after activation is confirmed. Turn off auto update and find an sp1 or rollup to install manually. Then reboot a couple of time s and auto update after that. Turn off driver updates btw.

It could be it is just taking a long time to process all the updates. Possible on a slow computer.

Does it have SP1 installed? If not then you can download Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and install it to get all the updates it includes, then run a Windows Update after.

its ultimae sp1 , its installed 1 update being update agent then it just hangs ive had it sitting there for hours hanging. i just restored it back to first restore point and trying again but my theory is ms have stopped support for fresh installs in the effort to push win 10.

I install W7PSP1 64b several times a week, updates no prob, you do get the odd one that just does something silly and a reinstall fixes it.
Microsoft are still doing updates and a scheduled for another 3 or 4 years or so.

Try installing 64b, there coa is not 32 or 64 bit dependent.

Are you installing from CD or recovery partition?

Is windows activated?
