Wasn't sure whether to post here or in Laptops.

I have an old Tecra A7 that I'm trying to put XP on. It has the XP pro sticker on the bottom with the key.

I need it to run XP for some car diagnostic software that only runs on (stupid).

Now, the issue is, it won't install windows beyond "Setup is checking your hardware".. It just hangs.

It'll install Ubuntu, mint, puppy linux, vista (blergh), OSX(!!!) but not bloody XP! I've tried 4 discs, 3 bootable USB installs, praying to cows, and even the old "FCKGW" install...

I'm going slightly mad.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Perhaps it needs storage drivers?

It doesn't get even far enough for the blue "setup" screen! Doesn't windows look for drivers after that?

It asks for drivers when you select the storage - if you can't see for example.

After about 10 seconds of "checking your hardware", the dvd-drive spins down and it'll sit there for hours, but I can install every other OS I've thrown at it. It's even installing vista RC1 now (only vista I had).

It doesn't even get that far! I checked the discs on virtualbox on my win10 laptop and they all run fine (I now have 4 xp virtual machines).
