I just installed a ssd to my pc and somehow i have managed to make a mess of things trying to clone hard drive. I used free program from net i found. When i first tried to clone partition with operating system all was going fine then pc shut down. When trying to reboot now i get message about boot mng missing. So i put windows install disk in and after date and time come up go to start up repair and it comes back with partiton table repair completed. Still wont boot up.Boot off disc again and go to system recovery options but no system is listed and it asks to load drivers from hard disks. It currently lists C drive which is ssd with system reserved partion. E which is old hard drive operating system with F drive partition for data etc. Also showing X drive Boot. Any suggestions what to do from here. Bit confused. If i run disk chk ssd is showing active

Can you remove the SSD and boot from original hard drive? Prove drive okay and nothing lost, then back up drive contents normally.

Personally, if I was installing system to boot from SSD I would install OS from scratch.

mrplane: No it wont boot from original drive and it isn't found when windows disk looks for drive

That is when SSD removed from your system and any BIOS settings reset back to boot from HD?

Can you install the OS directly onto the SSD from DVD media with original hard disk disconnected?

You need to clone the "System Reserved" partition, a few hundred MB in size, as well. That partition contains all the boot info.

For cloning, "Macrium Reflect" free version is pretty good.

+1 for Macrium Reflect.  I've used it several times, it's easy to use and reliable.

Fairly common issue for this type of thing. This will solve it for you

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/927392

Use boot rec as follows and in the following order:

bootrec /fixmbr

bootrec /fixboot

bootrec /rebuildbcd

Have fun.

Another tick for Macrium. I have used it to clone to an SSD. Afterwards the SSD wouldn't boot so I once again fired up the Macrium boot CD and told it to fix the boot on the SSD. All good after that.
