new POS computer

with touch screen I5 8gb and 256 ssd

to use with RAMSYS POS

the person setting up for our group wants us to install win 7 then upgrade to win 10 he says works better

"Spec is good, is there any chance of him installing windows 7 then upgrading to windows 10? Makes the system work a lot better that way as currently some Ramsys functions do not work properly on Windows 10 native"

Seems strange the company we are getting pc off do not understand either

Any thoughts

Thanks Alan

Doesn't make sense to me either.

I thought (may be wrong) that the upgrade from 7 to 10 involved moving the old Win7 directory (C:\Windows) and installing a fresh Win10, then copying user data back in. It certainly takes a LOT longer to upgrade to 10 than it does to install from scratch.

I think what your POS supplier is asking of your vendor, is that can they supply the PC with Win7 installed, then do the free upgrade to 10? You could just tell the POS vendor that that is what has been done...

Ask for a full explanation of why/what the implementor thinks that is needed.

Off the top of my head it sounds like a very roundabout way of achieving compatibility with software that has some compatibility issues with windows 10. /speculation

If so, there are usually easier ways to do that.

The cynic in me says that somebody has a lot of Windows 7 keys that they want to use up.  wink

Disclaimer:  I have absolutely no bias against Windows 7.

Someone wants to charge more time for setup, imo.

The only possibility I can think of is that they have some driver or software installer that is hardcoded to only install on Win7 but that does work on Win 10 after an upgrade.

Enjoying the thoughts

to be fair no one has extra win 7 licenses the joy of the double install is probably mine and the ramsys installer is only installing POS

I like Robcreid's idea but still seems odd if they can narrow it down surely its easy to just install the driver needed

Thanks

Compatibility aside, it could also be a vendor misunderstanding (native) about x86/x64 versions of win 10.
