Windows 7 says I have some updates to apply, but they never download. I've been watching the "Received" data count in the Status for my wifi adaptor and the number moves only a few KB every now and again due to incidental background traffic (I assume). Definitely no 22MB update and most certainly no Windows 10 upgrade.

I have tried to do with Windows 10 upgrade today but it failed with a message meaning (I checked) the network connectivity was interrupted.

Every other things works just fine.

Wifi is connected at 866mbps. (HP Laptop - 2 months old - Core i7, 16GB RAM)

Thanks.

About 20 mins after I posted this, Windows suddenly downloaded some updates in a few seconds and then I installed them. But it seems to be like waiting for a bus. You can stand there.....and eventually it arrives and you best have your hand out because it won't be back for a while.

Hmm.

Did you get that date off the PC you're trying to update?
I have a suspicion that windows update doesn't work if the time/date is wrong.

Check they are correct.
Hint: it's 2016 06 05

So Windows Update on Windows 7 has many issues but there don't seem to be any on Windows 10. Someone into conspiracy theories could get a lot of mileage out of that...

True. One of the reasons I want to upgrade is that recently Windows 7 has been experiencing mysterious slowdowns. (Tin foil hat ready.....though if MS is involved, they really can't be trusted).

Have done a couple of fresh win 7 installs over the last couple of months.
MS seem to have seriously stuffed the updates.
After a fresh install there usually seem to be errors the first time you check for updates.
From memory you have to find and install a new windows update client, and I often found you had to download and run a windows update fix-it. It always seemed to come right after that.

This might be an interesting read for some of you. Paul Thurrott's recent experiences with updating Windows 7, with and without the Convenience Rollup:
