Hi there. Quick question could sombody please confirm if schools give windows volume license keys to students for t heir home computers?
I wrote the main question at the top and gave a back ground of my sitation below so people did not have to read through a block of text.
I did try to phone the microsoft Piracy phone number for NZ to ask the question but the phone line is dead... maybe the pirates stole it ![]()
Outline. Somebody i know asked me to help them with their kids computer. I determined the OS needed reinstalling as it had failed a refresh and we could not go any further.
I asked them for their Windows COA and they said somebody gave it to them but they lost the key.
I ask did you pay for it? they said no it was given to them because its an "education key" but came from the person they purchased the parts off. They then contacted the person and they sent the key to them via text. This same person sold them their Computer parts and said because he is a student he can have the key as its educational key.
As far as I was aware the OS Volume licence keys for schools were only to go on school owned devices? (Noting this is windows 8.1Pro) On top of that the key did not even come from the school his child was going to. It came from another part of the country.
Now I know there is a program for windows 10 education however when you search the schools on the website for eligibility they don't come up, only tertiary providers show (Then I think its only discounted not free)
Long story short I told them they have to buy windows 10 from a retail shop like PB tech. They still insist on using this Key.
I said I would install windows 8.1 pro but would not enter the key so they would get their 30 day "trial" as I don't know if it is legitimate key or not. They would have to enter the key them self.
