Without building a new machine, is there a cheap way to get windows 10 rather than paying what is quite a steep non OEM price (even OEM isnt that cheap)?

Not fussed on what version, just whichever one that runs photoshop, office (both cloud) and GIS.

I could, but "they bought them in bulk" might be the wrong answer, so I could ask you! :D

I bought win8 pro from MS for less than they charge, and now that laptop is running 10.

I bought an XBox live membership off a site years ago and never had any issues (haven't done it since, I don't use my xbox).

The cheapest way to Windows 10 is probably asking here nicely for a picture from a Windows 7 COA sticker from one of the users old PC. An OEM Windows 7 license will activate a new install on 1511 fine. Yes it's no doubt against user license, but at least your not buying from a shady keys website.

$150 odd, or a bit more seems fine to me. MS is a software company, so buy it. How long will W10 last? Years. And when the next big thing Windows wise comes along, you'll probably get some upgrade benefit. Buy, and support the industry.

I can't speak for that specific vendor on that commerce site

But what we generally see is someone signs up for a free or low cost Microsoft subscription like MSDN or TechNet or DreamSpark, harvests all the license keys and sells them online before we get around to cancelling them.

Again not saying this is what that vendor is doing but Microsoft doesn't sell Windows keys for $30

Ahh, thanks... I didn't know that. I won't be buying off them then. Not that I did.

I actually paid $40 for windows 8 pro from MS (on 26/10/2012) :D

I love all these people that get on their moral high-horse and think paying full price for everything somehow makes them superior.

I bought a 4K tv a month or so ago... I certainly didn't pay RRP.

I wouldn't for a new car, or pay TV, or anything else if I can get a good deal.

Sometimes you CAN get a good deal from MS. I'm running win10 on one of my machines because I bought 8 for $40 at release.

Alongside purchase of an OEM licence for Microsoft software qualifying hardware is required, I'm guessing that is all that is meant by "without building a new machine".

I purchased a 100% legit Windows 8 Pro physical DVD in 2013 for $70(ish), so Microsoft resellers can sell them that low in New Zealand

And due to "digital exchange rate tax" we pay in New Zealand, it does not surprise me in the slightest that people overseas can offer keys for cheap
