Hi folks,

I have just recovered a HDD from my dead laptop and installed it on my Win 2K3 machine. At the moment I would like to transfer some data from the partitions there before reformatting the drive. Unfortunately the permissions are all screwed up so I can't actually get into some folders easily. For the most part I have to take ownership of the dodgy folders then alter the permissions accordingly. This is all fine and dandy but I have to do it individually! Yikes!

Are there any gurus out there who can suggest a better solution please? Is there hope?

Cheers,
Dany.

You should be able to select the root of the drive and take ownership and ask this to replace permissions on all sub-folders.  Once done you can then set the permission ("Users" get all permissions) and ask that to replace all all sub-folders.

Ah...you're right...that would've worked just great had I selected "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" as well. Thanks for the pointer!

Cheers,
Dany.
