I got a standalone Windows XP machine that’s not on a network and I would like some sort of free "net nanny" type of software so the users can’t access any dodgy sites.

Anyone got some recomendations?

I have investigated this recently, and drew a blank. There is some good cheap software out there, but no freeware. The problme is, is that someone has to maintain lists of URLs and filters and things on an ongoing basis, and though people don't mind writing software for free, you can't provide an ongoing service like URL filtering for no $$.

I haven't tried it personally (no need). But have you looked at http://www.opendns.org

http://www.opendns.com has some nice features for content filtering.
It's not software but a free alternatiove DNS system.
