Hi  All,

Just bought the M-in-Law an ex lease  HP 8000 Elite from PBTech in their sale last week.  Seems to Ok except when I insert a USB stick   I see the drivers start to install and then get a  error " Dive driver not successfully installed"  and when I look in the device manager I see a yellow ! beside the device.  Had a look on the HP website but can't see any special drivers for this.  Have done the update driver trick and use the local PC as the source I'm told that this is the latest driver and doing an update on line just sits there..  Looked online  but most solutions say delete the device in the device manager and reboot but that didn't work.  Most exstream solution was to install the OS again which I don't want to do..

Any suggestions??

Thanx in advance.

Regards,

Old3eyes

Boot off a live Linux disk (Ubuntu ?) and see if that picks up the USB properly - if not, I'd be contacting PBtech.

Post screenshots of device manager (also right click on failed driver > properties for details) + http://www.uwe-sieber.de/usbtreeview.html

Thanx.  I booted to Ubuntu 16 CD and they work fine there.  I think it may go back as there are some other odd things like three times on power on or reboot it has gone and done a scandisk  that may indicate  that the hard disk is not healthy  and twice on bootup I have gotten a message saying that Windows has not been activated but looking at My Computer > Properties it shows it is..

Normally when I have bought these for people I get the better model with an i3 or i5  processor, this has a Core 2 duo..

It's not looking good. Based on past experience with pbtech there will be no issues with a return. I have purchased a few ex lease things worked out really well, but one had to go back.

Went back to PBTech and changed it out for the i3 version and paid the difference.  This one is fine.  The only thing is that like the last one it just sites there looking for Windows updates  which seems to be fairly common issue these days..   Had it on several PCs runup at work..

This is a known issue with Windows 7, Microsoft released a KB to fix this. I'm not on my pc so can't link to it sorry. A Google search should bring it up. (stop the windows update service before installing the KB to help speed it up)

Use the update rollup.

The update rollups are a buggy mess as well, from the many new Win7 installs/reloads Ive done over the last month.
Heres how I got it to work. Download the convenience rollup ( 400Mish) and the required pre-requisite patch . (Not the July/Aug rollup)
Once downloaded, disconnect from the internet & install.
Now , download the Aug Rollup. Disconnect from the internet & install.
Then reconnect to internet & run the usual Windows update from within Win

I found, if you didnt dis-connect from internet when running one of these rollups , the PC would sit there "searching for updates"

Thanx Nathan.

The filename AMD64-all-windows   implies this is for an AMD CPU not Intel or does this mean something else??

Just means 64-bit Windows (spec developed by AMD but adopted by Intel): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X86-64
