Hi everyone

I have an Xbox 360 Elite that I am trying to configure to access the shares containing video on my Windows Home Server box.

I have configured the server shares to have guest read access, and enabled media sharing through the console.

My Xbox can see the WHS box, but when I select it I can't see any of the shares.  Alternatively, if I try to access shares on my iMac the Xbox sees them without a problem.

If I try to access Pictures or Music via the Xbox that are stored on the WHS, these work perfectly.  The only share I can't get into is the one containing video files.  The video files are playable on the Xbox as I used to have them sharing from a Vista PC perfectly as well.

Can anyone shed light on this?  I've never had problems sharing media to my Xbox before, and I doubt Microsoft would have made it too difficult to get it up and running on both machines, so I'm thinking I'm probably missing something obvious here.

Thanks
G.

freitasm: Have you enabled the guest account as well as allowing access to the shares?

Sure have, thanks

Ah well, nevermind me!  I had the files in a share I had created myself.  When I moved them to the Videos share that WHS creates automatically, they were accessible from the Xbox.

I wonder, is this a WHS "feature"? or did I just create my shares incorrectly.  Better do a bit more playing so I can find out.  I don't like it when programs decide my folder structure for me.  Looks like WHS is all about doing that, so I'll either have to get used to it or figure out how to do things my way without breaking it :)

Windows Home Server will only start the media sharing for the default media folders. There's an add-in available that allows you to extend this functionality to other folders.

As for the system making decisions, remember this is a platform design for home users. More technical users can tweak it, but some choices are pre-defined so that certain users could just plug, turn on, and play...
