Much appreciated if someone can help me out. I need assistance in being able to manage a workgroup Hyper-V Server 2016 from a Win 10 pro computer.

I’ve been using an MSDN article as reference (specifics at bottom of webpage).
https://msdn.microsoft.com/vir......

I’ve followed the above instructions with mixed success.

At best I can get it working and connect to the host but then the snap-in on the management pc crashes and then won’t work/connect again at all.

I’ve already looked on the internet at quite a few articles but they all seem dated or everyone seems to have their own unique idea of how to set it up it.

I’ve undertaken several various ways and methods and am stuck now.

If possible could someone please provide a simple list of setup instructions that should work in getting to be able to manage the VM host from another pc.
Also for my own sanity I need to clarify what the FQDN would be -  for example a host called VMhost in a workgroup called kitkatklub.

 thanks in advance

Quick response:

The article notes you can connect using IP address. Tried that one?

Did you add the firewall rules as specified?

Thanks

Yes - only trying to connect via IP with Hostname\administrator credentials

Initial during install the host sets itself as a on a public network.

I change this with "Get-NetConnectionProfile | Set-NetConnectionProfile -NetworkCategory Private"

After this public to private change firewall rules have been applied

It's a nightmare. There is a tool called HVREMOTE, but in all honesty for a simple config, 5nine manager free is your best friend.

yeah, hyper-v has always been a major pain in a workgroup.  I've had the original running in the past but I thought/hoped it had gotten easier.

I used HVREMOTE etc then but it seems like its not Win10/Server2016 friendly and the creator doesn't have time to fix it due to the number of changes needed.

Thanks for pointing out 5nine manager. I had a brief play with it but am trying to keep my pc as clean as possibly.  If all else fails its probably the fallback plan.
