I know Vista has a built-in partition re-sizing tool (I have used it previously).

This is how my current partitions look (Dell XPS M1210):

What I want to do is increase the size of C: by 10GB or so, and reduce the size of D:.

My question is this:

If I shrink D: by 10GB, will Vista's partition tool then let me extend C: by 10GB?

I'm cautious because IIRC, when Vista shrinks D:, it will leave free space at the end of the drive block, not the part adjacent to C:, and subsequently won't let me extend C:, because the new free space will not be adjacent to C:.

Cheers,

Ash

you will need a drive management utility tool to do that. Vista's is just a basic one.

I have tried with GParted (ISO) and it does work well (in my case).

Pre-warning though... make sure you backup the important stuff, perhaps the C: and D: before you try such feat.

Just as a note - only the latest versions can support Vista's NTFS. Normal NTFS (like Windows XP...) is usually supported.
