Hey guys,

Just wondering if there are any fishhooks with importing a notebook from the US (model isn't stocked here) - the AC adapter appears to be 120/240v, so all I'll need to do is replace the cloverleaf cable.

So other than paying GST, are there any other likely issues? And yes, I realise RMA's will be a lot more difficult too.

You might not be able to access all Wi-Fi bands.

Dell Inspiron 7000 2-in-1 - I want a 17" ultrabook, and this is the closest think I can find for a reasonable pricepoint (i.e. not a gaming-spec machine that looks like a 5-year old designed it!)

I imported one a couple of years ago. I did it privately through my sister who lives there because Amazon wouldn't export the model I wanted. The only issue was the lithium battery, which required her to jump through a few bureaucratic hoops to get the necessary paperwork, but it wasn't too awful.

Cool, thanks - yes I read up on the Lithium situation with Youshop; as you indicate, they're prohibited, but Youshop's plicy is that if the device is being shipped in it's original, OEM packaging, then it's safe to ship:

Things are much much harder regarding batts now

Some couriers just see it as too hard to deal with & will simply reject the package outright.
In theory, you can (sometimes) send if the batt is part of a ~kit~ (eg a phone) , but some courier services just may reject it anyway.
Ive had a package rejected after they xrayed it & saw a (empty) AA batt compartment .
