I would like to refresh windows 10 to clear out everything but the OS. I have several items of software including Office 2013 which is a volume licence that I want to retain. I am not sure that if I try to reinstall it will not upset MS licensing. If I extract the MS Key will I be able to reinstall. I realise that I can  ring up MS and get them to reissue a licence but last time I did that they insisted that I had used the licence  which of course I had it was the same PC. I don't really want to go through this again if I can somehow just blow it all a way and then reinstall the apps.

Thoughts Please

I think you're out of luck.

A refresh will mean you must re-install Office & other apps
There may be "issues" with that vol lic key ? perhaps thats why you had issues trying to activate it.
Also, vol lic key may not work on standard (non vol lic) office install CD/ISO/exe

Your works IT dept will be able to help you out with vol lic isues , otherwise chances are its something that you
shouldnt be using (MS possibly thought this as well).

It's a perfectly valid vol licence purchased from MS. Problem is it only had three installs per licence and they can see that three three have been used. When I explained they give me a new number bird I was trying to avoid that. I will see what happens

Volume licence keys come with 50 installs or so. Are you meaning a retail licence?

Not at all Its a special deal for MS customers where you get licences of any of their suites for $10. I have the disc and licence Key but have used the three licences on three PC's now I want to replace hard drive and rebuild the PC and I know it will reject the licence normally because MS see that I have used all three licences, Its annoying that they haven't come up with a way to offload the licence key to a file which would allow a reinstall

Bummer that there is no way to relinquish the license before you wipe the old HDD..... or is there?

There are third party apps for MSO 2013 which can save and restore activation state, but telephone activation is not that hard?

This is MS HUP (home use program)

There are some caveats that they have every right to stick to as people usually exploit it on termination or loss of employer subscription.

Employees who use the covered licenses at work are eligible to purchase these Office applications for use on a personal device during the term of their employment. This temporary license expires with the employer's Software Assurance coverage, or upon termination of employment with the covered organization.

There is a supported reinstall process, (and key recovery method) again.. relating to the above. https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Install-or-reinstall-Office-through-the-Home-Use-Program-HUP-d99c6e4a-6756-4ece-99a0-b1df654ec7d3?ui=en-US&rs=en-001&ad=US

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

Current licensing details for HUP only allow the installation on a single device - https://www.microsofthup.com/hupnz/faq.aspx?country_id=NZ

- On how many computers can I install my Office product? You can install and activate your Office product on one personal device.

Not sure if earlier iterations allowed for installation on more than one device though.

Thanks for that information, I was well aware of the terms of the agreement and my agreement certainly says Three licences. I have the CD's in front of me covering the terms you mentions. I have a funny feeling that Office 2013 is going to disappear as the move goes to Office365 which I must admit is easier for MS to manage. I wanted to retain a copy of this PC and guess I can do the telephone route.

Thanks again

Dont be too surprised if its rejected

"Employees are eligible to download and install purchased products only while their employer’s Software Assurance agreement is active"
Its not a lifetime license , like Office retail, hence the low cost.

We are most certainly still covered especially as it cost us North of 1/4 million dollars. One thinks it might be time to consider alternatives but size of company precludes it
