Operating system: Windows 7.

Computer: ASUS P550L

I had a small corruption on my ASUS laptop some time ago after which windows desktop stopped displaying the icons at startup.

I can manually tick the 'display desktop icons' option to fix this but previously the default was always ticked.

I've tried various methods to fix the problem but haven't found a solution.

Can anyone help?

Michael

Perhaps it has something to do with Active Desktop being enabled?

Not sure you can actually disable it through a user interface in Windows 7 but you can through Policy or Registry Editor.

In earlier versions of Windows you could hide desktop/folder items using desktop.ini not sure if that applied to Windows 7 though.
