Does anyone have any issues with vista files transfer speeds?
Mine seems to be mind blowingly fast (NOT)

eg
across wireless network achieving 1+ MBps transferring any sort of file
to copy any file (large ones small ones etc) off dvd to hard drive - 1+MBps
to copy file to external hdd usb 2 - 1+MBps.
to copy files from one partition to another within the same hdd - 20MBps.
i do not have 2 hdd so i cant comment about transfer between them.

with 3rd party applications people have said you can achive way faster files transfer i'm sure (eg dvd decrypter can rip my home made dvd at 8x speed, etc), but what's the problem with vista??
or is it just MY vista?

Put your computer down, and step away from the rock you are hiding under.

EDIT: The above line really deserved its own smiley: Tongue out

Ongoing issues for many many users for a long period of time.

Not sure what current status is, nor what difference SP1 makes, if any.

And yes, its awful, and frustrating.

This is a known issue, has been talked before as pointed out by Tony.

Window SP1 fixes some of this. I have no problems with speed. But really I use Teracopy now instead of the system manager.

This page Daniel Petri has some useful tweaks - including for slow file copying.

I have not run all the tweaks listed but definitely the RDC. *Seems* better but I def know what you are on about. Even USB transfers....

I second using Teracopy, solved my slow transfer headaches.

I haven't noticed any file transfer speed issues before or after Vista SP1 upgrade.
That's over wireless, wired LAN and USB.

YMMV

Maybe  I should add.. that my computer is 2 weeks old.

I'm getting 40 m/sec copying a file to another partition on the same disk, and 5m/sec from USB flash drive to HDD.

I guess these speeds aren't great - but like I said I hadn't 'noticed' any issue.
Now that I'm paying attention the USB transfer does seem a little slow.

sp1 helped me with copying between internal drives, but as soon as i connect an external drive or usb stick the slowness takes over again - and i'm not talking usb-slow, because using the same devices on Leopard copies super quick.  Sigh.

Have you configured the external USB drives for quick removal (default) or optimised?

"uick Removal" means everything is written to the drive as it comes, meaning tha it will be limited by the drive speeds. Optmised will cache the content on your computer's memory and flush to the drive when I/O is completed.

There's a huge difference in performance - and this is there since Windows XP.
