hello,
This weekend i tried to install a copy of windows vista to a family computer running windows xp professional sp 2. I tried 5-6 times to install but each time it would restart and hang on the first screen, i have tried turning off avg but it didn't help, i ran the upgrade advisor and it said we were ready to update. i also copied the disc using alcohol 120% but still nothing. Any soloutions?

Are you Upgrading or trying a Fresh Installation?

Where does it hang exactly from these pictures?

Have you tried to do a clean install straight off the boot disc? Is there a problem doing so?

What are your hardware specs?

Yeah, unless you need an upgrade (which you said it's a clean install), then try booting from disc.

If there's a problem, descibe it and your hardware specs in detail.

That's very rare... 99.9999% of drives should just work with the generic driver.

I've installed Vista in dozens of drives without fail - so do others.

Anyone here have this experience before?

We have seen instances of Vista crashing on copying or expanding files. After a lot of research we came to the conclusion that the DVD drive was faulty. Replacing it fixed the problem.

If you are trying to install Vista on the drive where XP Pro is installed you should format it first. Installing over the top of an XP install can cause some issues.
