And the wave slider is all the way up? The defaukt sound device is correctly selected in the Sound applet in the Control Panel?

Is the problem with all sounds, or just some applcations?

I had a problem with Windows Media Player 11 after installing XP SP3.  The system sounds worked OK, and WinAmp played music OK too, but WMP wouldn't make a sound.

I fiddled with some of the settings in WMP and it started working again.  I'm not sure exactly what settings I changed, but it was something like:  Tools, Options, Devices, Speakers or thereabouts.
