Ok, I've been trying to get Sky Online working since it was released the other day but I've not been able too.

I registered with no problems and installed the SKY Media Manager. I have all the Minimum Requirements.

When the SKY Media Manager opens up, it uses IE.
The Media Manager is frozen and I cannot do anything

Above I get an infomation bar saying:

"This webpage might require an add-on. Please refresh the page for more information about this add-on".

Refreshing doesn't do anything. Run Add-On either. Tried turning off all security settings on IE andstill nothing. Anyone know what might be causing this?

Minimum Requirements say I need IE 6 or Firefox 2.0. How can I get it to run in Firefox?

I can't seem to find info on Sky Online for TCL Cable users... I have registered but the part where to activate the smartcard for access, the instruction is for Sky smartcard as it seems.

The requirements are disgusting overkill.
Windows Media 11, DRM, Excessive requirements....,... ERRRRRROR.. Avoid.

I'm currently attempting to "obtain" it so will report if I have any luck.

Nope, it's too smart with WMP and I don't have an hour to fiddle with it.

Trashcan concept. Shows the utter impossibilities of trying to do anything the legal way.

Back to the underground we go. (And force DELETE Wmp9 from my system while i'm at it)

I had this exact problem when running IE 8 Beta 1 - I uninstalled and went back to IE 7. When I loaded up Sky MM on IE 7 it specified the required add-on rather than saying it may require one etc, I installed it and all was good......

Is TCL digital tv subscriber able to get on it? I've registered but I need to put my smartcard number on but it asks for 01 or 02 plus 8 digits... however TCL's smartcard starts with 00.

Another stupid DRM setup by the look of it.

DRM FAIL
SKY FAIL

I gave it a go but was disappointed by the quality of the video.

The WMV file for Miami Vice was 1.2 gig in size with compression artifacts all over the place.

Divx/Xvid at half the size is of better quality.

I "think" the video is 4:3, GSpot certainly shows it as 720 x 576... on widescreen it appears as 4:3, but strangely as if it is 16:9 compressed into 4:3 size.

No matter what player I use I just can't get it to look right.

For $5 to test it's water off a ducks back and it is a BETA offering..

Does anyone know if this is what you would expect for the full release?

OK I got it working, Problem is it's horrid quality and really system intensive as Ashen explained, May Xvid live forever.

Top marks to sky...  Good on them for bringing it out and doing deals with telstra etc and data caps.

Sadly the host company uses horrid, bloated, inefficient DRM windows media.
Hollywood is still obsessed with horrible DRM regimes.

I finally got it working on both my PC and laptop, but the choice of what I could download was very poor. Cricket, rugby or wrestling. How can people judge the quality of a program if it's something they will never watch. The programs I watch are motorsport and the likes of Discovery and National Geographic. Watching cricket won't give me any idea of how motorsports programs will look. And if Ashen is to be believed, there is too much compression.

i tried it, but can't be bothered paying $5 for something that doesn't update content regularly.

I signed up, which went fine, installed the stuff and downloaded Final Destination 3.

Went to play it (Running Vista Business) and WMP just refuses to play the file, not error messages or anything but if you click Play nothing happens. Tried downloading something else (Can't remember what), same thing.

Removed the software and unsubscribed straight away. What a waste of time and quota.
