So I have two step verification enabled on my Microsoft account and I always get asked for the code. Just now I was having some problems in Outlook 2013 so deleted the profile and created a new profile. Added my email address and I was able to set it up just by using the password. Previously I had to use the app specific password which I have saved somewhere but this time for some strange reason only the password worked. I am quite concerned, anyone else experienced this. Straight after this I logged in to my microsoft account in the browser and was asked for the code after password.

It gets weirder. Just noticed that doesn't matter what password I put as long as both fields match I can set up my email. And to make matters worse, I just tried without password and it worked too?? This is making me concerned. Is there something I'm missing here?? Any other service I'm logged on to using the same account on this laptop could cause this??? Can't think of anything?

Well as far as I'm aware it's not. You mean the app specific password is cached somewhere as even if my MS account password is, shouldn't work for email set up?

Check what you have saved in Windows Credential Manager, in Windows 8.1/10 you can access it through the classic Control Panel.

That machine is trusted after the initial MFA, there is a token in that windows profile. I'd echo those suggesting the password is cached (this happens when you tick the remember my password box). Because there are two different types of authentication in Office 365 (Basic and ADAL) it's quite possible to have a password prompt come up, yet have the password from credential manager be used anyway.

Thanks everyone, I can see something in Credential Manager, must have saved my App Specific password though I never checked remember password or even got that option when setting email in Outlook.
