I've done myself no favours - creators update uninstalled / reinstalled didn't fix - while working / testing things / getting a couple of updates decided to uninstall - only the Window.old directory got deleted. Restored it from backup - but still didn't get the option to revert to the previous version.

But I don't really need to go back IF I can just solve one issue. I need to "make live" the Task Bar. Most programms are still there - but not Thundebird / Firefox. But just to prove it's not anti-competitive behaviour, neither is Skype. Strangely my other programs are still there - mainly accounting programs of various sorts - plus Acrobat & Teamviewer.

I'd like to know if there is anyway to adjust these on the taskbar. Something's "locked" them out - I've tried repinning but no joy (seems to work but not there on next restart).

Thanks

Weirder and weirder. With not help from any source I'm still trying to figure out what the problem is - or at least who I can get to fix it. There are similar issues - one very similar - but so far nothing has worked.

I can add other programs - just not these three. I've found and deleted them from the most stupid location - who'd have thought to look under a folder called Internet Explorer. Re-pinning them made no difference. Then I tried pinning the programs themselves rather than the shortcuts.

That worked - sort of. The icons come up on startup - but when I click them, the app launches - and creates a new icon on the task bar. Not so bad on a large screen - but it is annoying clutter having two of these icons for the three programs. And of course no idea what else I might want to pin that has the same issue.

Sounds more like the user profile is corrupted. If you create a new local user can you manage the taskbar icons, move them around, etc?

I may have made some newbie assumptions here - but I think I've tested it. I already had a second user set up (for my wife) - we'd just never had occasion to set it up and use it. So I logged into that account for the first time - and the two Mozilla programs wouldn't stay.

1706 (creators) on had some more options open to it for the start menu and taskbar, and associated GPOs.

We use layoutmodification.xml to deploy an image and make sure everyone gets the same layout.

C:\Users\Default\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Shell  (for default/new profiles)

Or susbst default to yours for your own existing one. Just make sure its not gone read only or applied any of those GPOs
