Hi,

My parents run CorelDRAW at work, connected to a laser cutter. Yesterday Windows did a bunch of updates (Windows 7), and we can no longer get past the splash screen. Also when trying to open a file. This is the exact same behaviour I found here: https://community.coreldraw.com/talk/coreldraw_graphics_suite_x5/f/544/t/24139

I have tried rolling back windows, uninstalling updates, updating CorelDRAW to latest version, and also running it as Administrator. I have also done a repair with the uninstall tool, and then uninstalled and reinstalled it. No luck. I am a bit hesitant to wipe windows and start again, as I'm not sure that will even fix it.

Any suggestions?

Details:

CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5 x64

Hot Fix 4 installed

Windows 7 x64

The PC is a core i5 with 8GB RAM. Has had no trouble in the past with running software or the laser.

Does anyone have a solution for this? I can't find any other solutions online, and they need this for their business.

Sam.

That's a name I haven't heard in a while.

Try windows event viewer or Google for a log file it may created after any error/freeze point.

Just a guess but graphics card driver maybe? Try rolling it back or get latest from manufacturer web site?

My reasoning is last week one of four Win 7 PCs that auto update, all identical hardware, had one of them change drivers causing an older program which is installed on all four to start lagging really slowly to all input ie keyboard and mouse to the point it was unusable. Checking the other PCs the only difference was the graphics card driver. Changed it to one from manufacturer site (couldn't find the exact same version driver at least not in the time I searched and there was no roll back option) and the program's operation is back to normal.

you could try logging on as a different windows user and see if it loads then, if it does you know the error is within the profile somewhere

would suggest just updating to Corel 2017 Upgrade, it loads the X5 files fine

X5 is ancient and doesnt work properly on windows 10 etc
