I am trying to pair my new Bose on-ear wireless headphones with my laptop running Win 7 in order to use them as a headset for Skype. The closest I have got was to pair the headphones via bluetooth, and could only see them show up in the microphone section of Skype's audio settings. They were not an option under the speakers section/drop down.

Can anyone suggest where I might be going wrong? The laptop's BT drivers are up to date.

Some Laptop BT Chipsets do not support Audio over Bluetooth.

We have Dell laptops here at work, and the older ones (Latitude 6430 I think they were) would not connect BT headphones.

You may be able to do a bit of jiggery-pokery by replacing the Bluetooth Stack - the Toshiba stack I believe works pretty well and will support BT Audio. I did this with a laptop here and it did work.

I recall a past issue with both our laptops where the windows (default) and Realtek (from memory) sound drivers/settings were in conflict with each other causing all kinds of weird sound issues. Some things would work, others not so much, but it was pretty random. Fixed by disabling the Realtek drivers and preventing the auto-updates from re-enabling them again, instead just using the Windows default settings/drivers. never had a problem after that. Just a random thought that might be related.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Are the BT drivers the standard windows ones? If so I would see if you can find some hardware specific ones on the laptop manufactures support site. Failing that I would write an email to support for your laptop. I had lots of trouble with my Dell running windows 7 until I installed the Dell drivers. Just to note windows 10 seems to work a lot better.

Thanks for the help everyone. As I am using a company laptop this is starting to fall in the too hard basket. I will leave it for now.
