I've been working with Windows 10 1709 in order to deploy an image from Microsoft Deployment Toolkit and one of the issues I have encounted with my test VMs is the following error when I attempt to join the domain;

Out of the 6 VMs I have built, I have encountered this issue on 2 of the VMs
I was well aware that SMB1 was being removed, but after talking to our infrastructure team I am at a loss as to why this error message comes up at all, as we have 5x Windows Server 2008 R2 systems as Domain Controllers.

It would seem to me that when I talk to one of the DCs in order to authenticate, it is wanting to use SMB1 for whatever reason.

The question I have that I can't find the answer to on the internet - is there anyway to tell what DC you have authenticated against prior to joining a domain?

Sounds like SMBv2 has been disabled on one or more of the DCs, which might explain why it's working for some of the VMs and not others, since it would depend on which DC they are authenticating against.

Heaps of information here on disabling/enabling and checking the status of SMBv1/2/3. You'll need access to the DCs to verify the status there.
