Hi

This is my computer setup.

Intel i7 7700K CPU

Gigabyte GA-H170-HD3

Cooler Master Hyper212 Cooler

16GB DDR4 2133 RAM

480GB SSD SATA3

Quadro P600 2GB

Cooler Master Storm Enforcer 4 front USB (2X3.0 2X2.0)

Zalman 600W PSU

LG 24X Dual Layer DVD Drive

Asus Xonar DG 5.1 Sound Card

Philips 233V5QHABP/75 23" Monitor

2 X 3TB Seagate Internal

Win 7 Pro 64Bit

My problem is with trying to auto shutdown Win10.

Lets tackle this one problem at a time.

Lets say it is 10.00pm and I want to shutdown the computer.

I use the "Select Start  and then select Power > Shut down" it works fine.

But some time during the night the computer restarts itself.

I have check my Bios for "Resume on Alarm" and it is all set to 0...

So what might be turning the computer back on and where can I look to find out.

Thanks

Richard

The computer turning on randomly could be due to a Windows setting. Check 'Method 3', but disable "Allow this device to wake the computer".

Hi

Thanks for the info.

I had a look and have un ticked that box.

So i will see if it restarts by itself again tonight.

Next issue is ...in the Bios when I try to enable the Wake on Alarm feature.

The Bios doesn't "save" my settings.

I make the changes and use the save and exit feature.

But if I go straight back and check the Bios it has not excepted the changes.

Thanks

Richard

When you change the setting, you may have to save that change before hitting save and exit. Perhaps it's hitting F10 immediately after toggling the setting to enable.

Hi

Well it still turned itself on again , over night.

So I checked out your F10 trick in the BIOS and after a few tries I could

get it to keep my changes.

I will not go into that yet in case it still doesn't work.

Also Wake from keyboard is disabled in the BIOS

But I think I may have found my error.

In my BIOS ,even though the Wake on Alarm was not excepting my inputs, it was still ENABLED.

So I think it was Waking at 0hrs 0mins 0 secs every day.

I have Disabled it and we shall see if that was the error.

Thanks

Richard

Disable Wake On LAN as well, if that option is there.

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

Hi

Well it is looking good so far.

Computer has not restarted over night.

So it was me having enabled the Wake on Alarm and not noticing it.

So now to to setup the auto off each night.

I try the Task Scheduler but ,because of having Wake on Alarm enabled and set to all 0,s it

made me think there was an error.

Can I use Task Scheduler to set up 2 auto shutdown times?

Say one for 11.00pm each night and another for 7.00am each morning?

You think that would work?

The computer would be switched on around 6.00am each morning.

Thanks

Richard
