Hi all,

My father has a windows 7 laptop that is apparently bugging him that windows 7 support will finish soon and I will update him to windows 10.

The only thing stopping me doing that at the moment is that they are using windows live mail for their emails.

As dad is 80 and always used the mail client, I want to install another client as I find the gmail web app not good, the w10 mail app barely adequate, and while thunderbird is great I think of it as more of an enthusiasts product.

Outlook is the way to go but I dont have a spare copy and I dont want to go down the road of getting a dodgy key from ebay.

As a last resort we will get him an office 365 subscription.

I have been out of the consumer / residential game for some years and dont know of any other email clients, does anyone have any recommendations for a nice, simple easy to use mail client that supports IMAP.

Thanks

John

Hi, if you still have an install of Windows Essentials, you can still install it on Windows10 and use Mail Live, I too had a similar parent issue, sadly no longer.

Cyril

Edit: you can no longer get Essentials from MS, however various sites like cnet.download have it available, obviously its no longer supported, as such no longer patched for vulnerabilities, but hey.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Thanks Cyril,

I will just do an inplace upgrade to keep windows live mail, I believe the installer no longer works.

Regards

John

There is an offline installer of Windows live around that I believe still works. I possibly still have a copy of it somewhere.

Rural IT and Broadband support.

Broadband troubleshooting and master filter installs.
Starlink installer - one month free: https://www.starlink.com/?referral=RC-32845-88860-71
Wi-Fi and networking
Cel-Fi supply and installer - boost your mobile phone coverage legally

Mozilla Thunderbird. I have around 25,000 messages in my IMAP inbox (I don't really use folders), and it still performs well.

I recommend setting up accounts in offline mode, as a while back they introduced an annoying feature where it tries to guess your settings.
