Now as the regulars will know I am an Apple man. My brother however is a Windows 10 user and quite the computer Luddite he is too. (he is a Barry Crump bushman at heart) And I know nothing about Windows.

He has recently returned from seeing his new grandchild in WA and is having difficultly sending his great photo's to us all.

Every time he sends an email with photo's, it contains a Senders email address of: outlook_***************@outlook.com and it appends "Sent from Mail for Windows 10" at the end. However this is not his normal email address which is ********@kinect.co.nz. If he just sends a normal email, no photo's, the Senders email address is his correct one and "Sent from Mail for Windows 10" is not appended on the end.

When the recipient then goes to 'Reply' to the email containing the photo's it replies to the outlook_***************@outlook.com address and that then bounces back with the error code: "Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable."

How can my brother overcome this Windows quirk ? and ensure ALL his emails come from his normal ********@kinect.co.nz email address ?

Thanks

What email client is he using for ihs Kinect address?

If he logged into Windows using a Microsoft online account (Hotmail, Outlook) then this will also be the default account on Windows Mail. If he finds a photo and click "Share via email" then that's the one being used.

If he wants to use a different client then he needs to change the default, or create a new email from his normal email client and then attach the files.

Microsoft Windows Live Mail according to his email 'Default Header' info

I don't understand how Window sends from two different addresses. Or is there two email programs on his computer, Outlook and Outlook Exchange (I am guessing here) How can he instruct Windows to use just the one email program for everything and just the one Sender address (********@kinect.co.nz) for ALL his emails ?

Thanks

There are two email clients, yes. The Windows Mail (which by default uses his Outlook email) and Windows Live Mail which is probably something he had before.

Open Settings and search "Default app". Change the email default to Windows Live Mail as it is probably Windows Mail (the Windows 10 app).

After some research I have come up with these instructions for my brother. Are they correct for Windows 10 ?

To change the default email client in Windows 10:

 1. Go to the Windows taskbar and select Start.
 2. Select Settings (the gear icon).
 3. In the Windows Settings dialog box, go to the Find a setting text box and enter Default.
 4. Select Default app settings.
 5. Select Mail to display a list of email apps that are installed on your computer.
 6. Select Mail - recommended for Windows 10 (this is also known as Windows Live Mail) do not select Outlook
 7. Close the Settings dialogue box.

Looks correct.

Interesting comments about the different signature behaviour based on email action so I'm guessing I've just skim read it. To change/remove the Sent from Mail for Windows 10, go into the Mail app> Settings cogwheel down in the bottom left>Signatures>Enter your signature blurb in the box provided and then tick Apply to all accounts (depending on what the accounts and signatures need to say).

If your brother previously used Windows Live Mail then he will be confused by Windows 10 Mail. They are not the same application.

Windows Live Mail is still easier to use for basic users which is why it remains popular on Windows 10.

But I'd actually recommend avoiding both Mail or Windows Live Mail:

  1. Become independent of an email client by using webmail. Unless he has a lot of stored emails in his email client then the better option is almost always to use webmail through his web browser.
One exception to this is if you use swipe-based gestures which Microsoft Mail supports much better.
  2. Become independent of ISP-supplied email accounts. Instead use a free email account from Microsoft, Google, etc. The support and longevity of the service are likely to be better plus you avoid all the issues of changing email account when you change ISP (or power supplier as in this case).
Microsoft Mail with an outlook/hotmail account will sync SPAM control lists. That will not happen with the TrustPower account.

Thanks but as stated in my OP my brother is a computer Luddite and he is getting worse as he progresses through his 70's, even though he is a retired electrician. He only just updated to a smart TV and box so he could watch the RWC. He detests obsolescence. He hated having to upgrade his 10 year old flip phone to a modern one, Oppo touch AX5 and he only choose that because of 4230mAh battery. Then he only turns it on infrequently. Mind you he did spend a whole day on the couch learning about it - strange man. So learning a new mail program or mail system he will not like. I tried teaching him how to use gmail for when he was overseas in Canada, well that went down like a lead balloon. He would much prefer Kodak photo slides and a projector than digital stuff. As I said he is a Barry Crump and much prefers to be in the bush. The funny thing is, his eldest son is much the same.

Cheers

Any one know what TrustPower (kinect) email attachment size limit is please.

It seems the above instructions I sent him are either to much or he just can not be bother so he is getting a mate in to sort it out.

Your brother and I would get along well. I am also well into my 70s and he sounds like my kind of person. I do use Live Mail, though. I tried other options after OE was killed but Live Mail (which is just OE in other clothes) works best for my purposes. It handles multiple email accounts well, is free, and works well for simple needs like mine, though it does have some weird typical MS quirks. Fortunately those don't usually get in the way. One quirk is that there seem to be different versions of it floating around. Some work, others don't. I had to work it out by trial and error. I also discovered on a friend's computer that a bad installation did not completely uninstall, and prevented further attempts to reinstall. That kind of thing. But it works well for me on different computers. Maybe I just got lucky.
