hey all, hoping for some help here....I'm computer competent but I'm no wizard and after extensive googling I haven't got anywhere.

SO my issue came about randomly, And what's happening is that When I copy movie files from my PC to a USB flash drive, the end of the movie cuts off. (most of the time right near the end or during the credits - not good when awaiting those Marvel post credit scenes.... )

*this is when I plug the drive into a TV, any TV - and I didn't used to have this issue using all same hardware)

Also, when I copy music files to USB I get weird noises through the audio (like a really bad DJ mucking stuff up ! )

*This is when I play music in my vehicles through the USB port - Same hardware, never had issue before)

I have tried multiple USB drives, reformatted them all etc - no dice.

As an additional test, I grabbed the laptop from work tested downloading some content onto that machine and transferring to USB drive - perfect on TV's and in the car.

So it has to be the machine I'm using has some sort of error/virus etc....The USB drivers appear up to date.

I've run MBAM through it and nothing appeared as nasty.

So my question is, what next ??

Thanks in advance

Greg

Sure it's not the USB stick itself? There's various pirated type drives around that have a lower amount of storage than they report, so once the drive fills past the actual amount they have, nothing works.

Plug in USB try to copy again before USB removal right click bottom task bar ^ find USB icon and left click 'Safely Remove hardware and Eject Media' then remove and try again.

Also try go to Dell website enter service tag and install latest USB drivers, restart try again.

Yes as mentioned I've tried multiple drives and they have all been used successfully in the past, capable of holding 5-8 movies dependant on file sizes.

However with a fresh format and only one movie on the drive, the same thing happens.

Also worth mentioning, The whole file is on the drive....I can pop it into another computer and it will play the whole thing.

Also doesn't explain music corruption.

Always eject so not that problem.

I'll jump on the dell site and see if that gives me any joy though, thanks

I'm guessing you are using the native OS copy capability?

  1. Try using other copy utilities such as TeraCopy, FreeFileSync, Midnight Commander
  2. Compress your media into a ZIP file, copy the zip file acroos & see if you can extract the media from the ZIP file. Is the ZIP file also corrupt & the extraction fails?
  3. Also update chipset drivers, not just USB. Ensure to overwrite existing files.

So are you saying that you copy the movie from your PC to the flash drive and plug the flash drive into a TV and the end is cut off but if you plug it into another PC the ending plays ok?

Correct, however if I copy it from the other computer to the same flash drive and put it in the same TV, it plays the entirety of it.

And, It does it on my other TV too so it's definitely not a TV issue.

Using Teracopy may resolve. I had to the same issue with large files. Using Teracopy resolved this.
