I am conducting an experiment at home. I have one computer that is in a workgroup and not a domain, I have another computer that is MSHOME. I am able to get into the shared folder in through the entire network file. What I was wandering, is there any way to find the ip address or mac address without putting them on the same network or doing ipconfig on the actual computer. All this is being done wirelessly by the way

A quick an easy way would be to copy a file over to the computer, while its copying open up cmd and type netstat it will show all open connections, you will see an unfamilar ip address which will be the address of the pc copying too.. even just connecting to it will probably actualy be enough for it to show

Hmm if you're able to see the computer name then I believe you should be able to ping it by it's computer name.
That'l you give you the IP address, and running "ARP -a ip.address" will give you its MAC
