Hi all

Is a simple NTFS reformat the best way to reformat a WD Red drive? Didn't know if you're supposed to do spending else with these NAS drives.

Thanks.

is it a NAS drive?
If it is then there is probably a specific format required and a tool within the NAS itself to reformat the drive.
Common format for NAS is XFS or ext3/4 but it all depends on the make of NAS drive you have

I don't have the NAS anymore (was a Synology). Am flicking two 3TB WD Red drives off by themselves so was wondering how to format so they end up like when you buy them new.

Cheers.

For selling if its had data on it then look for DBAN to run over it. There may be newer options now that do the same thing but its worked for me in the past, and AFAIK nothing has changed to make it not work.

If you don't format a drive you intend to sell to NTFS after wiping it the new owner may think it has failed.
