Can anyone advise me as to how to find out which version of Windows a laptop is entitled to run (through hardware key) for an ex lease PC I am setting up which currently has Windows 10 Enterprise on (short of installing Windows 10 on it and letting it do it own thing and activate)? It's currently working and I don't want to nuke it from orbit without knowing what is going to happen.

Any sticker on it? What brand, is it a Dell by any chance? If so you can punch the Service Tag into Dell's site and it will tell you what it shipped with.

Running the following command to get the product key from the bios - "wmic path SoftwareLicensingService get OA3xOriginalProductKey"

Chances are if it is running Enterprise the OEM licence will be Pro as Enterprise requires a valid pro licence.

That will get the key

try "wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKeyDescription" to get the description and "wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKeyPkPn" to get the Microsoft Product SKU

Some one better with powershell might be able to put all that into one command that formats the output :)
